How to use Video to Short (free, no upload)
- Choose or drop your video. It loads in your browser and is never uploaded.
- Pick a framing: Blur fill keeps the whole shot with a blurred background, Crop to fill fills the screen, Black bars keeps everything with bars above and below.
- Drag Position and Zoom to frame the subject. Scrub the preview to check different moments.
- Set the start and end time. Shorts can be up to 3 minutes, but shorter clips usually perform better.
- Click Convert to vertical and download your MP4.
Frequently asked questions
Is it really free with no limits?
Yes. The conversion runs on your own computer, so there are no server costs to pass on. Convert as many videos as you like.
Is my video uploaded anywhere?
No. Your browser reads the file directly and builds the new video on your device. Nothing is sent to a server.
Why does conversion take longer than the clip?
Every frame is rendered one at a time at exactly 30 (or 60) frames per second. That keeps motion perfectly even, at the cost of some speed. Faster computers finish sooner.
Should I use 60 fps or High quality?
The defaults (30 fps, Good) look great on phones and finish fastest. 60 fps only adds smoothness if your original was filmed at 60 fps, and it doubles the frames to render. High quality gives a sharper, larger file and also takes longer.
What format do I get?
An MP4 file (H.264 video with AAC audio in most browsers), which YouTube, TikTok and Instagram all accept.
Which browsers work?
Recent versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari. Chrome and Edge are usually fastest.
